Orthokeratology
Dr. Knutson has many
years experience reshaping the front surface of the eye using specialty
super permeable firm lenses. As the front window of the corner of the
eye is gently flattened, the vision gets better. Usually a few pairs of
gas permeable lenses are used in succession, as the eye changes. This
procedure can be done, either at night or day. The usual fee for the
procedure and materials is approximately $600.
Keratoconus
This
condition often requires highly specialized contacts such as Rose K
(Karatecomus) gas permeable on the large draping lenses. These lenses
arch over the irregular cone-shaped cornea, creating a new surface and
better vision.
For mild cases, a regular
gas-permeable can be used. Also, there are soft lenses made to have a
gas perm. sit over to increase comfort. When the cornea is more
misshaped, a steeper contact with more advanced curves is prescribed to
ride properly on the cornea.
